Why should you even consider having a coach? If most successful people do, there must be a good reason behind it right? If you want to improve in any area in your life, a coach might be just what you need. Coaches are trained to help you clarify what is important to you and focus on just that. This makes your road to success much quicker, than if you would dabble around on your own. Not saying that we are not able to be successful on our own, but having a coach makes things a lot easier.
A good coach knows how effective it can be to have a coach and that is why even most coaches have a coach. I started working as a life coach and during this blogpost I’ll explain why, what coaching is, and how it can be beneficial for everyone.
‘A life coach does for the rest of your life what a personal trainer does for your health and fitness’
– Elaine MacDonald
I believe that we all have our talents and gifts that we are meant to unravel and use for something. Everyone is gifted and has something to add. Sometimes we just have to find it, that thing that sparks our soul and is an unlimited source of energy. It fascinates me when I can help another person discover their own greatness. It lights up my soul and gives me tremendous fulfilment.
Now a very important thought to mention is that if someone can do it, everybody can! This means that if you look at successful people, they have started from somewhere. If you would want to get to a similar place, you’d need to walk the same path. Of course it is not entirely as easy as that, and you shouldn’t want to be someone else being the beautiful human being you already are. But it does show us how our possibilities can be unlimited and we should not limit ourselves with the beliefs such as ‘you need to be born with it’. This is just not true.
‘Coaching helps you to take responsibility for your life, let go of what others think and become your true self. It’s about you creating the life that you want – and deserve.’
– Emma-Louise Elsey
Coaching is not therapy! During therapy there is a client-professional relationship, in which the professional tries to gain an understanding of specific harmful problems that the client is dealing with. Coaching has more to do with how it is currently going and where de person would like to be ideally. As a coach, I put myself next to the person and during the conversation we are equals. Subjects that one might encounter during a coaching trajectory are:
- Setting up a life plan, gaining insights in personal goals
- Finding ways to deal with and limit stress
- Create a balance between work life and private life
- Gain understanding of oneself, become more self-aware
- Gain discipline and motivation or improve
As previously said, most successful people have coaches to. Even coaches have coaches. A coach provides a neutral, objective view on the subjects you discuss, but not just that. During a session you may figure out things you didn’t know about yourself. Such as how a belief you hold as a truth, might just be a subjective thought that is holding you back.
To give a personal example, I had a limiting belief that I wasn’t good enough. Even though I have accomplished many things in life. The belief that I wasn’t good enough, hold me back from doing things that I wanted to do. However, that was what I thought. Through a coaching session I discovered that even though I had that belief, I had accomplished so much. Every time I set my mind to do something, I do it. Realizing this made things so much easier. Now every time that thought pops up in my mind, I laugh about it. And I also know that everyone may suffer once in a while from a limiting belief, even this one.
Now tackling those beliefs is not the only thing that you will do when you encounter a conversation with a coach. When you have a project, something you want to do or accomplish in any area in life, that being work or relationships or physiology, you’ll find a way to do it most efficiently and successfully. We can all do it on our own, but having a coach makes it a lot easier.
